The discovery of the Holtermann Collection in 1951 led to a revival of interest in colonial life and consequently the images were used in the design of the new decimal ten dollar note. One side of the original paper Australian ten dollar note, issued in 1966, shows a graphic montage of no less than twelve references to photographs of Gulgong from the Holtermann Collection.

Concept designer, Gordon Andrews, combined elements from these photographs to create a richly detailed representation of early Gulgong as context for a depiction of Henry Lawson and samples of his handwritten manuscripts.
